Q-Bert Pattern

As a second original pattern I decided to share my pattern of Q-Bert with you! 

Even if I never lived the golden age of the arcades, I love old video games and Q-Bert is probably the most appealing of all of them to me!

Since I saw Pixels (the movie), I felt even more in love with the little character and I had to make one!

Abbreviations :

st = stitch
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together

ch = chain
f/o = finish off

Supply :

Use any worsted yarn and a 3.0 mm hook
(It's what I used, but you can use anything beetween 3.0 mm and 4.0 mm with worsted yarn)

I use Pumpkin Orange by Red Heart for the body.

Any White will do the job for the eyes!

[You can use any yarn, but be sure to choose the appropriate hook size, you need tight stitches]

Safety eyes (the size you want!), you can also use whatever you want like buttons,

felt or yarn, but I prefere safety eyes

Use yarn if this toy is for a baby or a kid under 3 years old

How to read this pattern :

I write my patterns the same way as Sharon from Amigurumi to go

Each row has a sequence.

Example: 1sc then 2sc in next st means repeat that sequence

1sc then 2sc in next st followed by 1sc then 2sc in next st over and over

to the end of that particular row.

The number inside the parentheses ( ~ ) is the number of stitches you should have at the end of that particular row.

Important :

Don’t be shy with stuffing!

Q-Bert is more cute when they are really fat, so they need a lot of stuffing!

Also, use stitch markers!

Body :

1- magic ring or adjustable loop with 6st (6)

2- 2sc in each st (12)
3- 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)

4- 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st (24)
5- 1sc in next 3st then 2sc in next st (30)
6- 1sc in next 4st then 2sc in next st (36)
7- 1sc in next 5st then 2sc in next st (42)

8- 1sc in next 6st then 2sc in next st (48)

9-20- 1sc in each st for 12 rows

21- 1sc in next 6st then 2tog (42)

22- 1sc in next 5st then 2tog (36)

23- 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (30)

24- 1sc in next 3st then 2tog (24)

25- 1sc in next 2st then 2tog (18)

[Here you need to stuff the body! ;)]

26- 2tog 3 times, 1sc in the next 3st (12)

27- 1sl st, f/o, close up

Legs (x2) :

1- magic circle or adjustable loop with 6st (6)
2- 2sc in each st (12)

3- 12sc in BLO (12)
4-7- 1sc in each st for 4 rows

8- 1sl st, f/o

Feet (x2) :

1- magic ring or adjustable loop with 6st (6)

2- 2sc in each st (12)
3- 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)

4- 1sc in each st for 1row
5- 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (15)
6- 1sc in each st for 1 row
7- 1sc in next 3st then 2tog (12)
8-9- 1sc in each st for 2 rows
10- Fold the top of the foot flat and sc through both sides all the way across

(the number of sc is not important here). f/o.

Eye's whites (x2) :

1- magic ring or adjustable loop with 6st (6)
2- 2sc in each st (12)
3- 1sc then 2sc in next st (18) f/o

Nose :

1- magic ring or adjustable loop with 6st (6)

2- 2sc in each st (12)
3- 1sc then 2sc in next st (18)

4-6- 1sc in each st for 3 rows

7- 1sc in next 4st then 2tog (15)

8-9- 1sc in each st for 2 rows

10- 1sc in next 3st then 2tog (12)

11-12- 1sc in each st for 2 rows

13- 1sc in next 2st then 2tog (9) f/o.

Assembly :

1- Insert one safety eye on the middle of each of the eye's white, clip on

2- Sew the eyes beetween row 9 and row 16

3- Sew the magic ring of the nose toward the inside, as show on the picture to shpae it as Q-Bert nose. Sew the nose under the eyes, in the middle of the face, beetween row 15 and row 19.

4- Sew the feet on the legs, beetween row 6 and the last row

5-Sew the legs under the body beetween row 23 and the center.

Voilà, you have a little orange jumping buddle of joy called Q-Bert!
